Basketry / ‘pqunx

Steel | 22’ x 7’ | 2023

One of a two site-specific sculptures created for a multi demographic housing development in St. Helens, OR that intend to celebrate the region, both geographically and culturally. Inspired by the traditional weaving techniques of the tribes native to the Columbia basin, “Basketry” or “‘pqunx” in the Chinook language symbolizes the significance of the basket making heritage of this region. This woven pattern emerges on an archaeologic scale to remind us of the region’s past as well as imbue a sense of ancestral resurgence.
