Topographia Index

In the gallery is a series by Todd Horton co-created in part by the forest itself. Using inventive contraptions, graphite and charcoal were suspended from tree branches above his canvas. Over the course of days or weeks, passing wind and weather left their mark; an index of the hill’s experience captured in Todd’s beautiful compositions.

Outside Todd and I constructed “Castoff”, a 40ft wooden structure built from the scraps from milling the lumber “castoffs” for my shop and house. The structure was proportionally exact to the Sun’s arc from this location on the winter solstice. At dusk, Castoff was lit and over the course of one hour extinguished itself from East to West. The time-lapse photography of the burn embodies the Sun’s path across the sky on our hemisphere’s shortest day.

In the Shop, I unveiled a 28ft wide forged bronze residential gate commission. It was the culmination of many months of exploring forged bronze on a large scale.
