Track: Mouth of the Nooksack
Forged Railroad Rail | 60” x 6” x 9” | 2015
Forged from a 2ft chuck of railroad rail, this sculpture is part of a series that explores Bellingham’s heritage through resource extraction and the landscape. In particular this work speaks to the logging of ancient forests along our region’s watersheds. The slender taper drawn from the rail follows the Nooksack River starting at the mouth and extending approximately 10 miles up stream. Sculpturally, this work intends to bridge a material, a place and a time.
